David Gann is Chairman of the think, play, do group. He heads the department of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Imperial College Business School, London and holds the Chair in Technology and Innovation Management.
David is responsible for a large research portfolio, including many projects involving collaborative agreements with firms and organisations in design, manufacturing, engineering, construction, ICT services and healthcare industries. The interdisciplinary research team spans business studies, engineering and social sciences, working on projects across Europe, in North America, Japan and Australia. He has been a member of eleven DTI science and technology missions in Europe, Japan and the US and an advisor to the Deputy Prime Minister on construction matters and the built environment.
His personal research focuses on firms' strategies and government policies for technological innovation for the built environment and in the design and engineering of complex systems. Current areas of study address:
- New electronic toolkits supporting design, research, development and engineering and how these can reduce costs and uncertainty in innovation processes.
- Innovation and growth in project-based firms - focusing on firms' strategies for growth in project-based business and manufacturing and service sectors which are increasingly turning to project-based modes of operation.
This work has resulted in the development of new strategies and tools for managing innovation and growth and has involved intensive work in companies such as Arup, CSC, Laing O'Rourke, Procter & Gamble, Sun Microsystems, and Willmott Dixon. |
