Ian Mackenzie is Chief Executive of think, play, do group with overall responsibility for client development and delivery. His broad-ranging career to date has spanned consulting, entrepreneurial management, academia/education and innovation. He is currently a Visiting Fellow at Imperial College Business School, London researching innovation in the financial services industry.
His career has been focused from the very outset on innovation and has combined a career in academia as well as in business consulting.
Ian specialised in the management of technological innovation during his MBA (1979) and undertook a study of university and industry linkage for Imperial College (1982). During his time with Thomson Financial, he was responsible for introducing several innovative new services including systems for electronic trade confirmation. Subsequently, many consulting assignments have involved developing and introducing innovative new products and services.
Ian brings extensive business consulting expertise to think, play, do. His career began in consulting and he was first a consultant and later as a senior manager with the Boston Consulting Group. He subsequently became a Senior Partner and Head of the European Securities Industry Practice for the Mitchell Madison Group (MMG) (1995-2001) and Director in charge of Financial Services with OC&C (2001-2003).
In the Academic field, Ian helped set up the Centre for Business Strategy at London Business School (1984) where he also lectured on a major management development programme and undertook research into entrepreneurial management. He continues as Course Director of the International Capital Markets Association's Operations Certificate Programme on which he lectures on the evolution of the Securities Infrastructure industry.
Ian Mackenzie holds B.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Engineering from Imperial College London and an MBA from Harvard Business School where he was a Baker Scholar and Harkness Fellow.
